The Retrofit Coordinator oversees the entire retrofit project from start to finish. Their role includes assessing the existing conditions of the dwelling, identifying improvement opportunities, designing and specifying the retrofit measures, and planning the implementation process. They collaborate with various stakeholders, such as homeowners, contractors, and energy assessors, to ensure the retrofit project meets all requirements and objectives.

A comprehensive range of information should be collected when assessing dwellings for retrofit projects. This includes information about the building's construction, energy usage patterns, current insulation levels, heating and ventilation systems, and any issues such as damp or air leakage. The assessment should also consider the occupants' needs, preferences, and potential health concerns.

The Retrofit Coordinator can accurately identify the most appropriate retrofit measures and ensure effective design and specification by gathering this information.

Health and safety considerations are crucial in domestic retrofit projects to protect both occupants and workers. Some essential requirements include:

A thorough assessment should identify potential hazards associated with the retrofit work, such as working at height, exposure to hazardous materials, or electrical safety risks.

The retrofit project must comply with relevant health and safety regulations such as the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, and any local building codes.

The appropriate sequencing of the installation of measures is necessary to ensure that the retrofit project proceeds smoothly and achieves the desired outcomes. This involves strategically planning the order in which retrofit measures are implemented based on various factors, such as interdependencies between different measures, access to the building, potential disruptions to occupants, and project timelines.

By sequencing the installation of measures, the Retrofit Coordinator can minimise disruptions, optimise resources, and ensure that the retrofit project is organised and efficient.

In terms of statutory approvals required for retrofit, the specific requirements will vary depending on the local regulations and the scope of the retrofit project. However, in many cases, retrofit projects may require building permits, planning permissions, environmental approvals or heritage approvals.
